IDCOL Auditorium and Jayadev Bhavan (Soochana Bhavan) Auditorium, Bhubaneswar
The 3rd JDCA Short and Documentary film festival was held in Bhubaneswar on 12 to 15 December 2008 at the IDCOL Auditorium and Soochana Bhavan. The festival was organised by the Jatin Das Centre for Arts and its theme was Art of Nature and Man-made Art (Performing Arts). The festival had a special focus on the Art of Bangladesh.
The Festival provided an opportunity to filmmakers, artists and the people of Bhubaneswar to watch films and interact with filmmakers from India and Bangladesh. The curation was a mix of some eminent works to those by very young filmmakers. The Under Construction films screened at the festival were:
- Word Within the Word by Rajula Shah
- Listener’s Tale by Arghya Basu
- Where Are You? by R. V. Ramani
Several eminent filmmakers, such as Kumar Sahani, Aruna Vasudev, Jahnu Barua, Amitabh Chakraborty, M. R. Rajan, Urmi Juvekar, Anjali Monteiro, K. P. Jayasankar, and a group of young filmmakers from Bangladesh, attended the festival. The film festival also provided a space for display of ‘Under Construction’ films.
The Festival Hosted many cultural perfomances, exhibition stalls for Weavers’ Cooperatives from Orissa, National Film Archive, Little Magazine Publication. All participants were invited to one of JDCA’s ongoing evening programmes ‘Meet the Artist’. This particular ‘Meet the Artist’ edition coincided with the film festival and hosted a wonderful interaction with filmmaker Fauzia Khan from Bangladesh, and an excellent rendition of Baul songs by several artistes from Bangladesh.
