20th & 21st September, 2008 at Siri Fort Adutorium II, New Delhi

The Chromosome film festival was organized by Jagori, an NGO working with women’s issues amongst the women in India.

Jagori has been sourcing films from ‘Under Construction’ (UC) for the last couple of years. When the plan for a film festival materialised, they approached Magic Lantern for films and suggestions. During the curation process, Magic Lantern helped the organisers to source other films outside of the UC catalogue.

The two-day film festival was inaugurated by Kamla Bhasin, who needs no introduction. The festival saw many activists, film lovers, and students participating with great involvement not only with the films but also the issues that the films dealt with. Each screening was followed by a discussion. Students made their presence felt with their questions, and observations. The final day saw a panel discussion lead by noted filmmakers Vani Subramanium, Paromita Vohra and Rahul Roy. Under Construction also set up a display of its films at the film festival.
